Media education: you can no longer ignore it.

Media education is a new element in education and that makes us think a lot about how we should shape media education. At Solidoe we notice that media education requires the same approach as other parenting issues and that is to look carefully at where a child stands, support where necessary, encourage research and set boundaries.

The children (often) know how to find and use the latest platforms or games faster than we do. They get to work and do not judge whether it is appropriate for their age, or do not realize enough that photos or texts can be seen by everyone. That is the task for us as educators; assess whether children are engaged in digital activities that are appropriate for their age.

At Solidoe, we believe it is important to provide space for fun and discovery without losing sight of safety. So yes; we set age filters and make agreements about media use.

Digital developments are moving quickly, so it is essential to discover together with the children, to discuss the fun and difficult sides of media use and also to continue to develop yourself. So read our media policy. In the media policy we describe, among other things, that we use digital resources to support or deepen the activities. (For example, the children use a special app (online) to set up a digital treasure hunt that is carried out in the neighborhood or on location (offline).

Media education is dynamic and therefore extra nice to do it together; parents and childcare. We regularly organize a (grand)parent evening. Solidoe also works with the library: they have a lot of knowledge about media use and offer digital activities for children. Media education is certainly a new element in education that challenges us all but can no longer be ignored.

Request tour

Would you like to step inside, meet our employees, and get a feel for the atmosphere? You can! We would be happy to give you a tour of our location.

However, we can only schedule a date for this once we have actual space available at our location. This way we avoid disappointment. Currently, we have waitlists for (almost) all of our locations and there are no openings available. Therefore, we recommend registering your child first so that you can be added to the waitlist.

Procedure

As a childcare organization, we constantly consider our role in the education of the children entrusted to us.
